David Hockney Style Joiner Photographs

October 21st – October 26th, 2017

 

Objective: Students will take multiple photographs of the same subject matter using different vantage points, and use the technique developed by David Hockney to join the images to make a collage them. Students will turn in their readings with Cornell Notes.

Phase One: Do Now

T will: Day 1:

  •  “The Hook” – Intro PowerPoint about David Hockney and his “joiner” images,
  • View a YouTube video about making a Photoshop “joiner.”
  • Ticket out the door: Write a sentence describing where or what you want your joiner image to be from or about

 

Phase Two – Instructional Scaffolding

Go over Assignment, Brainstorm and class discussion about logistics of finding and creating an image

 

Teacher led Q & A about creating a “joiner”

 

  • Ticket out the door: Write a sentence describing where or what you want your joiner image to be from or about

 

Student assessment: Produce a “joiner” photo collage with at least 15 images

 

Instructional Strategies & Activities:

T: (I do) Show students PowerPoint & video, make assignment passes, and provided Photoshop demonstrations

S Will: (You do) Take at least 15 images of the same subject matter from slightly different angles and create a David Hockney styled “joiner.”

Create images, print images, create a collage out of the images, and matt final collage
